Typed a paragraph with Caps Lock on? Need a heading in Title Case, or a variable name in camelCase? The case converter rewrites your text in the style you choose, so you don't have to retype it.

It supports ten styles. Writers will mostly use lowercase, UPPERCASE, Sentence case (first letter of each sentence capitalized) and Capital Case (first letter of every word capitalized). Developers get the naming conventions used in code: camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, CONSTANT_CASE, dot.case and param-case (also called kebab-case).

Programming styles also strip out spaces and punctuation and join the words with the right separator, so "user account id" becomes userAccountId, user_account_id, USER_ACCOUNT_ID or user-account-id depending on what you pick.

Tips and things to know

• Capital Case capitalizes every word. Formal title case in style guides (AP, Chicago) keeps short words such as "and" or "of" lowercase, so review headlines by eye afterward.
• Sentence case can't know which words are proper nouns. Re-capitalize names, brands and places after converting.
• For URL-friendly text, the slug generator lowercases the text and replaces spaces and punctuation with hyphens.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

Both join words without spaces and capitalize each word, but camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (myVariableName) while PascalCase starts with a capital (MyVariableName). PascalCase is common for class and component names.

What is snake_case used for?

snake_case uses lowercase words joined by underscores. It's the standard style for variables and functions in Python and Ruby, and it's widely used for database column names.

What is param-case or kebab-case?

It's lowercase words joined by hyphens, like my-page-title. It's used in URLs, CSS class names and many file names.

How do I convert all caps text to normal text?

Paste the text and choose Sentence case. It lowercases everything and capitalizes the first letter of each sentence. Then fix any proper nouns.

Does the converter change numbers or punctuation?

Writing styles keep punctuation and numbers as they are. Programming styles remove spaces and most punctuation because those characters aren't allowed in identifiers.
