HTML tags remover

Remove all HTML tags from code or copied content and keep only the readable text. Clean up emails, CMS exports and web copy. Free HTML stripper.

Strip out HTML and keep the words

Copying content from a web page, CMS export, HTML email or rich-text editor often brings tags, inline styles and attributes along with it. The HTML tags remover deletes every tag, like <div>, <span style="..."> and <a href="...">, and leaves only the plain text.

Use it when you need clean text for a document, a plain-text email, a spreadsheet, a text-to-speech script, a word count or an SEO analysis.

Paste the HTML, submit, and copy the text.

How to use the html tags remover

  1. Paste the HTML content.
  2. Submit to remove the tags.
  3. Copy the plain text result.

Examples

Scripts leave their code behind

Input: <p>Hello <b>world</b>!</p><script>alert(1)</script>

Output: Hello world!alert(1)

The tags go, but the text between script tags stays. Delete script and style blocks before stripping.

List items run together

Input: <ul><li>One</li><li>Two</li></ul>

Output: OneTwo

Tags are removed without adding spaces or line breaks. Put each item on its own line in the source first, or add spaces afterwards.

Line break tags

Input: Tom &amp; Jerry<br>Next line

Output: Tom &amp; JerryNext line

<br> doesn't become a new line, and entities like & stay encoded.

Plain less-than signs

Input: 5 < 10 and 10 > 5

Output: 5 < 10 and 10 > 5

A lone < followed by a space isn't treated as a tag, so math survives.

Tips and things to know

Edge cases and limitations

  • Text like <3 or <name> can be mistaken for a tag and removed.
  • Comments (<!-- -->) are removed with the tags.
  • Line breaks already in the source are kept, so HTML that has one tag per line gives text with one item per line.
  • Empty lines left where block tags used to be can be removed with the duplicate lines remover or by hand.

Frequently asked questions

What does an HTML tag remover do?

It deletes everything between < and >, leaving the visible text content.

Will it remove scripts and styles?

Tags are removed. Check the output for leftover script or style contents, which may remain as text.

Does it keep line breaks?

Line breaks in the source are kept, but layout from tags like <p> or <br> isn't converted into new lines.

Can I keep links?

Tags including <a> are removed. Extract URLs separately before stripping.

Why did part of my text disappear?

Anything that looks like a tag is removed, so <3 and text in angle brackets like <name> disappear with it. Replace < with &lt; in those spots before stripping.
