List randomizer

Shuffle a list of names, tasks or items into a random order. Pick winners, make teams, set presentation order or randomize questions. Free.

Shuffle any list fairly

Put one item per line, such as names, tasks, songs, questions or giveaway entries, and the list randomizer shuffles them into a new random order. Every possible order is equally likely, so nobody can say the result was rigged.

The first name on the shuffled list can be your giveaway winner, or you can split the shuffled list into groups to make random teams. Teachers use it for presentation orders, managers for rotating duties, and game nights for turn order.

Shuffle again as many times as you like; each shuffle is independent.

How to use the list randomizer

  1. Paste or type your list with one item per line.
  2. Submit to randomize.
  3. Copy the shuffled list.
  4. Shuffle again if you need a new order.

Examples

Picking a giveaway winner

Input:

Ana
Bruno
Carla
Diego
Elena

Output:

Diego
Ana
Elena
Carla
Bruno

One possible result. Every submit shuffles again, so your order will differ. Take the first line as the winner.

Random teams of two

Input:

Ana
Bruno
Carla
Diego

Output:

Carla
Ana
Diego
Bruno

Read it top to bottom in pairs: Carla and Ana, Diego and Bruno.

Common uses

  • Picking a giveaway or raffle winner from a list of entrants.
  • Making random teams or groups for class, work or sports.
  • Setting the order of presentations, interviews or speakers.
  • Randomizing quiz questions or flashcards.
  • Shuffling a playlist, a reading list or a to-do list.
  • Randomizing question order for quizzes so neighbors don't get the same sequence.

Tips and things to know

  • Remove duplicate entries first with the duplicate lines remover, unless people are allowed several entries.
  • For public giveaways, share the full entry list and a screenshot of the shuffled result.
  • To pick a number instead of shuffling names, use the random number generator.
  • For alphabetical order instead of random, use the list alphabetizer.

Edge cases and limitations

  • Empty lines are dropped before shuffling, so a stray blank line won't become an "entry".
  • A line containing only 0 is dropped too, because it's treated as empty.
  • The shuffle runs on the server with PHP's standard random generator. It's fair for giveaways and classrooms but isn't meant for lotteries or security.
  • Duplicated names are kept, which gives those entries extra chances.
  • To draw several winners, take the first few lines of a single shuffle instead of shuffling once per winner, so nobody can win twice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick a random winner from a list?

Paste the entries, randomize, and take the first name on the shuffled list.

Is the shuffle fair?

Yes. Each item has an equal chance of landing in any position.

Can I make random teams?

Shuffle the list, then split it into equal chunks from top to bottom; each chunk is a team.

Can my list include duplicates?

Yes. Repeated lines are shuffled like any other item, which gives those entries more chances.

Can I get the same order again?

No. Each submit produces a fresh, independent shuffle and there's no seed to repeat it. Take a screenshot or copy the result if you need a record of the draw.
