Markdown to HTML
Convert Markdown (headings, lists, links, bold, code blocks) into clean HTML for websites, emails and CMSs. Paste .md text and copy the HTML. Free.
Write in Markdown, publish as HTML
Markdown is a plain-text writing format that uses simple symbols for formatting: # Heading, **bold**, *italic*, - list item, [link](https://example.com) and backticks for code. It's used in README files, GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, Reddit, Discord, many static site generators and documentation tools.
Paste Markdown and this converter outputs the equivalent HTML, so ## Tips becomes <h2>Tips</h2> and a list of dashes becomes a proper <ul>. Copy the result into a CMS, an HTML email, a web page or any editor that accepts HTML.
It's a fast way to move notes and docs written in Markdown onto platforms that only speak HTML.
How to use the markdown to html

Common uses
- Publishing README or docs content on a website.
- Moving notes from Obsidian, Notion or other Markdown apps into a CMS.
- Writing blog posts in Markdown and pasting HTML into WordPress or similar.
- Building HTML email content from Markdown drafts.
- Learning how Markdown maps to HTML elements.
- Converting README files into web pages or documentation.
Tips and things to know
- Leave a blank line between paragraphs, headings and lists so they're recognized properly.
- Markdown flavors differ: tables, task lists and strikethrough come from extensions like GitHub Flavored Markdown and may not convert everywhere.
- Make your headings into URL-friendly anchors with the slug generator.
- Minify the output with the HTML minifier or convert forum content with BBCode to HTML.
Edge cases and limitations
- Because raw HTML passes through, don't convert Markdown from untrusted sources and publish it without sanitizing; a
<script>tag would survive. - Task lists from GitHub or Obsidian aren't turned into checkboxes: - [ ] task becomes a list item that shows [ ] as text.
- Footnotes and definition lists aren't supported, so their syntax stays as plain text.
Frequently asked questions
What is Markdown?
A lightweight markup language created in 2004 by John Gruber that uses plain-text symbols for formatting and converts cleanly to HTML.
Is Markdown better than HTML for writing?
For writing text, it's faster and more readable. HTML gives more control over layout and design.
Does it support tables?
Yes. GitHub-style pipe tables, with a header row and a --- separator line, convert to a full HTML table. Strikethrough with ~~ works too.
Is the HTML output safe to paste into my site?
The output reflects your input. If you convert Markdown from untrusted sources, sanitize the HTML before publishing.
