Reverse letters

Reverse the letters of any text so it reads backwards: “hello” becomes “olleh”. Make mirror text, puzzles and palindrome checks. Free reverse text tool.

Spell any text backwards

Reverse letters takes your text and writes it backwards, character by character. "My Botsy" becomes "ystoB yM". The whole string is flipped, including spaces and punctuation.

Backwards text is fun for puzzles, secret notes, scavenger hunts and social posts, and it's a quick way to check whether a word or phrase is a palindrome: if it reads the same reversed (like "racecar"), it is.

Developers also use reversed strings to test text handling and right-to-left layouts.

How to use the reverse letters

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Submit to reverse it.
  3. Copy the backwards text.

Examples

A palindrome check

Input: stressed

Output: desserts

Not a palindrome, but a fun pair. Try racecar, which comes back unchanged.

Punctuation and spaces

Input: Hello, World!

Output: !dlroW ,olleH

Everything is reversed, including the comma, the space and the exclamation mark.

Numbers

Input: 12345

Output: 54321

Digits are reversed as characters, not as a number.

Two lines

Input:

abc
def

Output:

fed
cba

The second line comes first, and both lines are spelled backwards.

Common uses

  • Writing secret or puzzle messages.
  • Checking for palindromes.
  • Creating mirror-style captions and usernames.
  • Making clues for escape rooms and treasure hunts.
  • Testing how software handles reversed strings.
  • Creating mirror-writing practice sheets for handwriting and puzzle games.

Tips and things to know

  • To keep words readable but flip their order, use reverse words.
  • For text that looks flipped upside down, use the upside down text generator.
  • The tool reverses bytes, not letters, so accented letters, emoji and non-Latin scripts come out garbled. It's reliable for plain English text.

Edge cases and limitations

  • Accented letters break. café doesn't come back as éfac; the two bytes that make up é are swapped, so you'll see a broken character instead.
  • The same applies to emoji, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and other non-Latin text.
  • Reversing the result again restores the original exactly, even when the middle step looked broken.
  • Line breaks are reversed too, so the last line comes first and each line is backwards.
  • Reversing is not encryption. Anyone can flip the text back in seconds, so don't use it to hide anything sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write text backwards?

Paste it here and submit. The tool reverses every character, from the last to the first.

Is reversed text the same as mirror text?

Reversed text changes the order of letters; true mirror text also flips each letter's shape. Reversed text is the version you can type and paste.

How do I check if a word is a palindrome?

Reverse it. If the result matches the original (ignoring spaces and capitals), it's a palindrome.

Can I undo it?

Yes. Reverse the result again to get the original text.

Why do accented letters turn into strange symbols?

Letters like é, ñ and ü are stored as two bytes, and the tool reverses byte by byte. The two halves end up swapped, which doesn't form a valid character. Reverse the result again and the original comes back.
