Reverse list

Reverse the order of lines in any list, so the last item comes first. Flip rankings, timelines, logs and playlists in one click. Free online tool.

Flip any list from bottom to top

Paste a list with one item per line and the reverse list tool flips it, so the last line becomes the first and the first becomes the last. Each line stays exactly the same; only the order changes.

It's ideal for lists that came out in the wrong order: a log file you want to read newest first, a countdown ranking, a timeline, a playlist or a set of steps.

Unlike sorting, reversing doesn't look at the content of the lines at all. It simply flips the order you have.

How to use the reverse list

  1. Paste your list, one item per line.
  2. Submit to reverse it.
  3. Copy the reversed list.

Examples

Steps in reverse

Input:

Step 1
Step 2

Step 3

Output:

Step 3
Step 2
Step 1

The blank line is removed and the order is flipped.

Newest log entries first

Input:

09:00 start
09:05 sync
09:10 done

Output:

09:10 done
09:05 sync
09:00 start

Nothing inside each line changes.

A countdown

Input:

1. Gold
2. Silver
3. Bronze

Output:

3. Bronze
2. Silver
1. Gold

The numbers at the start of each line are part of the text, so they move with their line rather than being renumbered.

A list with a 0 line

Input:

Step 4
0
Step 5

Output:

Step 5
Step 4

The line that held only 0 is dropped, as described below.

Common uses

  • Turning oldest-first logs or exports into newest-first.
  • Creating countdown lists (10 to 1) from rankings.
  • Reversing timelines and changelogs.
  • Flipping the order of a playlist or queue.
  • Undoing a list that was pasted in reverse.
  • Turning an oldest-first export, such as a chat history or changelog, into newest-first.

Tips and things to know

  • To sort alphabetically instead, use the list alphabetizer (it can do Z–A too).
  • To shuffle randomly, use the list randomizer.
  • List separated by semicolons, spaces or pipes? Convert it to one item per line first with the text separator.

Edge cases and limitations

  • Empty lines are dropped, so the output can have fewer lines than the input.
  • A line that contains only 0 is treated as empty and removed as well.
  • Spaces at the start or end of a line are kept exactly as they were.
  • Line endings become Windows style (CRLF) in the result, which all editors handle.
  • The tool doesn't renumber numbered lists. Strip and re-add numbers if the new order needs to count up from 1.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between reversing and sorting Z–A?

Reversing flips the current order. Sorting Z–A reorders lines alphabetically regardless of how they started.

Does it change the lines?

No. Every line is kept exactly as it is.

Can I reverse the words within a line?

Use the reverse words tool for that.

Is there a line limit?

You can reverse long lists comfortably.

Does it keep blank lines?

No. Empty lines are removed before the list is reversed, which is usually what you want for lists. If blank lines separate groups, add a placeholder such as a dash on those lines first.
