Reverse words
Reverse the order of words in a sentence or paragraph, so “one two three” becomes “three two one”. For puzzles, word games and testing. Free.
Flip the order of words in your text
This tool reverses the order of the words in your text while keeping each word spelled normally. "The quick brown fox" becomes "fox brown quick The". It's different from reversing letters, which would spell each word backwards.
Word reversal is handy for puzzles, games, language practice and creative writing, and developers use it to create test data or check how layouts handle unusual text.
Paste a sentence, a paragraph or a whole list of words and flip it in one click.
How to use the reverse words
- Paste or type your text.
- Submit to reverse the word order.
- Copy the result.
Examples
A sentence
Input: The quick brown fox.
Output: fox. brown quick The
Punctuation stays glued to its word.
Double spaces
Input: to be or
Output: or be to
Words are split on single spaces, so a double space becomes an empty "word" and stays in the result.
A short list on one line
Input: red green blue yellow
Output: yellow blue green red
Handy for flipping a ranking typed on one line. For one item per line, use reverse list.
Common uses
- Creating word puzzles and brain teasers.
- Practicing sentence structure when learning a language.
- Making playful or mysterious social posts.
- Generating test strings for software.
- Reversing the order of space-separated items like tags or names.
- Checking that a right-to-left or mirrored layout still reads in a sensible order.
Tips and things to know
- Punctuation stays attached to its word, so "Hello, world!" becomes "world! Hello,".
- To spell everything backwards, use reverse letters. To flip the order of lines, use reverse list.
- For upside-down text, try the upside down text generator.
Edge cases and limitations
- Line breaks aren't treated as separators.
one twoon line 1 andthree fouron line 2 becomesfour two/three one: the words at each line edge stick together. - Tabs aren't separators either; tab-separated words move as one block.
- Capital letters don't move, so the sentence's first capital ends up at the end.
- For a list with one item per line, use reverse list instead.
- Running the output through again restores the original word order, double spaces included.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between reversing words and reversing letters?
Reversing words changes the order of the words but keeps them readable. Reversing letters spells the entire text backwards.
Does it work on multiple lines?
Yes, paste as much text as you like.
Does it change capitalization?
No. Words keep their original capital letters, so a capitalized first word will end up at the end.
Can I reverse it back?
Yes. Run the reversed text through the tool again to restore the original order.
Why did words from different lines get stuck together?
Only spaces split the text. A line break inside the text isn't a separator, so the last word of one line and the first word of the next move as one piece. Put everything on one line, or reverse each line separately.
