Upside down text generator
Flip your text upside down with Unicode characters you can copy and paste into Instagram, TikTok, Discord, X and messages. Free upside down text.
Turn your text upside down
Upside down text uses Unicode characters that look like flipped versions of normal letters, such as ɐ for a, ǝ for e and ʇ for t. This generator converts your text into those characters and, by default, also reverses the order, so the result reads correctly when someone turns their phone around: "hello" becomes "ollǝɥ".
Because the result is ordinary text, you can paste it anywhere: social bios, comments, usernames, Discord, chats and emails. It's a light-hearted way to grab attention or add a joke.
You can turn off reversing if you only want the letters flipped.
How to use the upside down text generator
- Type or paste your text.
- Choose whether to reverse the text as well (recommended for true upside-down reading).
- Submit to flip it.
- Copy and paste the result anywhere.
Examples
With reverse on (default)
Input: Hello World
Output: plɹoW ollǝH
Turn the screen around and it reads "Hello World". Letters with no flipped twin, like l, o and W, stay as they are.
A birthday message
Input: Happy Birthday!
Output: !ʎɐpɥʇɹᴉq ʎddɐH
Reverse off
Input: good morning
Output: ƃoop ɯoɹuᴉuƃ
Each letter is flipped but the order is kept, so it only looks upside down letter by letter.
Numbers
Input: Zach 2026
Output: 9ᄅ0ᄅ ɥɔɐZ
2 becomes ᄅ and 6 becomes 9; 0 looks the same either way.

Tips and things to know
- Not every character has an upside-down lookalike, so some letters, numbers or symbols may stay unchanged.
- Screen readers can't read flipped text properly. Don't use it for important information.
- For other styles, try the cursive text generator or Old English text generator. To spell backwards without flipping, use reverse letters.
Edge cases and limitations
- Punctuation such as ? and ! isn't flipped.
- Accented letters and non-Latin text can break when reverse is on, because the text is reversed byte by byte. Turn reverse off for words like café.
- Some flipped characters come from other scripts, so a few fonts show them slightly larger or smaller than the rest.
Frequently asked questions
How does upside down text work?
It swaps each letter for a Unicode character that resembles the letter rotated 180 degrees, then reverses the order.
Can I use upside down text on Instagram or TikTok?
Yes. Copy the result and paste it into your bio, caption or comment.
Why do some characters not flip?
Unicode doesn't contain a flipped lookalike for every character, so those stay as they are.
How do I flip it back?
The generator only converts normal letters into flipped ones, not the other way round, so keep a copy of your original text.
Will screen readers read upside down text?
Usually not well. Screen readers announce the individual symbols, so avoid it for important information.
