Website hosting checker
Find out which company hosts any website. See the host IP, ISP, organization, location and time zone of a domain's server. Free web host checker.
Find out where a website is hosted
Curious which hosting company a website uses? Enter its domain and this checker resolves the server's IP address and looks up the network behind it, showing the host, ISP, organization, approximate location (latitude and longitude) and time zone.
It's useful when you're shopping for hosting and want to know what a site you admire runs on, when you need to contact a host about abuse or copyright issues, or when you've inherited a website and nobody remembers where it lives.
One thing to know: many sites sit behind a CDN or proxy such as Cloudflare, Fastly or Akamai. In that case the lookup shows the CDN's network, because that's the only server the public can see. The real origin host stays hidden by design.
How to use the website hosting checker
- Enter the domain name, for example
example.com. - Submit the lookup.
- Read the host, ISP and organization details, plus the server location.
- If the result is a CDN, the origin host is behind it; check DNS or ask the site owner.
Examples
A site on a CDN
Input: A site behind Cloudflare
Output: ISP and organization: Cloudflare
The checker sees the CDN's server, not the hosting company behind it. Many popular sites use a CDN, so this is common.
A site on its own server
Input: A small site with no CDN
Output: ISP: the hosting company · City and country: the data center
Here the result usually names the real host.
Common uses
- Researching what hosting competitors or favorite sites use.
- Finding where to send an abuse or DMCA notice.
- Rediscovering the host of a site you've inherited or forgotten about.
- Checking that a migration moved the site to the new server.
- Seeing roughly where a server is located, which affects speed for your audience.
Tips and things to know
- Hosting close to your audience reduces latency. A CDN helps a lot when visitors are spread across the world.
- The organization field may show a data center or cloud provider (like AWS or Google Cloud) rather than the reseller you pay.
- For the domain's registrar and expiry, use the Whois lookup. For its DNS records, use the DNS lookup.
- For the details of a specific IP, try the IP lookup.
Edge cases and limitations
- Location comes from an IP database. It can show the company's registered address instead of the actual data center.
- Sites using several servers or a load balancer can give different results on different checks.
- Enter just the domain. Typos or domains with no website return no result.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell who hosts a website?
Enter the domain here. The tool resolves its IP and shows the organization and ISP that own that network.
Why does it say Cloudflare?
The site uses Cloudflare as a proxy or CDN, which hides the origin server's IP. The real host can't be seen from outside.
Is the hosting location accurate?
It's based on IP geolocation, which is approximate. It's usually right about the country and data center region.
Is the registrar the same as the host?
Not necessarily. The registrar is where the domain was bought; the host is where the website files live. They can be different companies.
