Signature generator

Draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger and download it as an image for documents, PDFs and email. Free online signature maker.

Draw your signature and save it as an image

Need a signature for a PDF, a contract, a form or your email footer? Draw it right in your browser with a mouse, trackpad, stylus or your finger on a phone or tablet, then download it as an image. If you make a mistake, use Undo to remove the last stroke or Clear to start over.

The downloaded image can be placed into documents with most PDF editors, word processors and e-signature workflows, or added to an email signature block.

For the most natural look, draw on a touchscreen with a finger or stylus. A trackpad works too; try a few times and keep your favorite.

How to use the signature generator

  1. Draw your signature in the signature area.
  2. Use Undo to remove the last stroke, or Clear to start again.
  3. When you're happy with it, download the image.
  4. Insert the image into your PDF, document or email signature.

Examples

Saving for a PDF or document

Input: Draw your signature and choose PNG

PNG keeps the background transparent, so the signature sits cleanly on a white or colored page.

A blue-ink look

Input: Pick a dark blue pen color before drawing

The color applies to new strokes, so choose it first. Many people use navy so a printed copy looks hand-signed.

Common uses

  • Signing PDFs and forms without printing and scanning.
  • Adding a handwritten touch to email signatures and letters.
  • Signing contracts, invoices and approvals in document editors.
  • Creating a signature image for creative or branding projects.

Tips and things to know

  • Draw larger than you need, then scale the image down in your document so the lines look smooth.
  • Keep your signature image private. Store it safely and only insert it into documents you mean to sign.
  • For legally binding agreements, an e-signature service with an audit trail may be required. Check what the other party accepts.
  • Compress the saved image with the image optimizer, or embed it in HTML with image to Base64.

Edge cases and limitations

  • Resizing the browser window or rotating your phone clears the drawing. Set up the screen first, then sign.
  • JPG has no transparency, so the background comes out black and a black signature disappears. Use PNG, or SVG for a scalable version.
  • Undo removes the last stroke, one stroke at a time; Clear starts over.
  • A mouse gives shaky lines. A touchscreen, stylus or trackpad gives a smoother result, since line width follows your drawing speed.

Frequently asked questions

Is a drawn electronic signature legally valid?

In many countries, including the US (ESIGN Act) and the EU (eIDAS), electronic signatures are generally legally recognized, but some documents need specific signature types. Check the requirements for your document.

Can I draw a signature on my phone?

Yes. Use your finger or a stylus on a touchscreen.

How do I add the signature to a PDF?

Open the PDF in an editor that supports images or signatures (many free ones do), insert the downloaded image and place it on the signature line.

Your drawing happens in the browser. Keep the downloaded file safe on your own device.
